FireEye of the storm for cyber risk?

Welcome to our European Financial Institutions Blog
bringing you updates on legal and regulatory developments affecting
financial institutions operating across Europe.
Tim is a senior associate in the financial regulation group at Slaughter and May (although all views are his own).
His practice incorporates transactional and non-transactional work for both financial and non-financial institutions.
Recent work has involved providing advice to UK, European and international clients on many elements of UK banking and securities regulation involving the UK ring-fencing regime, capital requirements, and the UK implementation of the Bank Recovery and Resolution Directive and MiFID/MiFID II. Brexit continues to loom over almost everything he does in these areas.
Tim has also advised a number of Fintech start-ups on the scope of their regulated activities, including when regulatory permission is required and how best to structure a group and/or product set to ensure regulatory efficiency. This has often progressed into providing strategic advice to regulated and unregulated Fintech clients on their expansion plans and how best to manage associated authorisation requirements/processes and regulatory risk.
Tim has also provided advice on a number of cyber security issues, including advising on the appropriate response from a regulatory perspective when a regulated financial services firm suffers a cyber breach.
Particular topics which Tim finds interesting at the moment (well, someone's got to) include commodities derivative regulation, digital currencies, RegTech, financial services, cyber risk in financial services, AI and smart contracts.
As you might expect, given the above, Tim is a highly-sought after dinner party guest. When not eating, Tim enjoys cooking, gardening and looking after his small children (although the latter seems to take up almost all available time).
